Vultures in Baronnies

Created in 1992, the Vautours en Baronnies association acts to preserve vultures and the landscapes on which they depend. The protection and scientific monitoring of four species of vultures that were once extinct from the Baronnies massif are gradually allowing their return to the French sky. Today, the association actively participates in the conservation of the Griffon Vulture, the Black Vulture, the Egyptian Vulture and the Bearded Vulture, by carrying out reintroduction programs and actions to protect their habitats.

The association supports farmers in the development of natural rendering, i.e. making the carcasses of farm animals available according to strict regulations, which promotes the essential ecological role of vultures: to naturally eliminate carcasses, limit the spread of diseases and participate in the proper functioning and balance of ecosystems.

Despite their return, vultures remain vulnerable. Disturbances near nesting sites, collisions with power lines, accidental or intentional poisonings, and the scarcity of food resources can still threaten their populations. Their conservation is based on the protection of their habitats and on a sustainable cohabitation between human activities and wildlife.

By reconciling scientific research and the preservation of biodiversity, the association contributes to making the Baronnies a reference territory for the conservation of vultures. By supporting the Association of Vultures in Baronnies, our park participates in the preservation of these emblematic species and the protection of the biodiversity of the French mountains.
