Ring-tailed coati

About This Project

Ring-tailed or South American coati

A relative of the racoon, the coati lives on the ground or up in the trees, where it can move about easily using its sharp claws and balancing with its long tail. An omnivore, it uses its long snout to dig for food in the soil: fruit, small animals, eggs…
While the females and their young live in groups, the males are solitary – mainly because the females only tolerate them during the mating season!

In La Barben, you will discover in a large vegetated aviary a family group, made up of 3 siblings born in 2013.
Sssh… Now you can hear the little whining sounds they make!
